What is osseointegration?
It is the biological process by which the bone of your jaw becomes intimately attached to the surface of the implant. It usually takes 2 to 4 months, after which the implant is as strong as a natural root.
Can I have implants if I have diabetes?
Yes, as long as your diabetes is controlled. It is essential to monitor your glucose levels, as poorly controlled diabetes can hinder healing and increase the risk of infection.
What is the difference between a bone graft and a sinus lift?
Bone grafting can be done in any area of the mouth to gain width or height. Sinus lift is a specific procedure for the posterior maxillary area, gaining vertical space where the maxillary sinus is very low.
Will I have to be without teeth during treatment?
No. Thanks to immediate loading, in many cases you can leave with temporary teeth the same day. If you are not a candidate for this technique, we design temporary esthetic prostheses so that you will never see yourself without teeth.
How is the postoperative period for an implant?
Thanks to guided surgery, the postoperative period is usually very comfortable. There may be slight swelling or discomfort that can be controlled with common painkillers. We recommend a soft diet and avoid intense physical exercise for the first 48 hours.
What happens if my body rejects the implant?
As mentioned, there is no immunological rejection. If an implant does not integrate (which is very rare), it is removed, the area is cleaned and, after a few months of regeneration, a new one can be successfully placed.
Does dental implant placement hurt?

Are there risks of rejection in implants?
Rejection” as such does not exist in implantology, since titanium is a biocompatible material. What can occur is a lack of integration (less than 2% of cases), generally associated with smoking or poor hygiene, which we solve by replacing the implant after a healing phase.
Can I wear implants if I smoke?
Yes, but it is important to know that smoking slows healing and increases the risk of infection. We always recommend reducing or eliminating smoking in the weeks before and after surgery to ensure success.
